Poker Tips - How to Bluff When You've Got Nothing

When it comes to any type of poker game, one skill that will prove to be very valuable in a poker player's arsenal is the bluff. Bluffing is basically deceiving your opponents into thinking you have something big when you in fact, may have a very lacking hand or maybe even no hand at all. If a player does not know how to bluff, then he or she will most likely end up folding extremely early in a the round when in reality, he or she could have lasted a whole lot longer and maybe even have won the whole thing.
The first and probably the easiest step in creating a good bluff is to recognize and acknowledge how many players are still left in the hand. Bluffing is usually not an easy task and in order for it to work one has to be pretty good at it, but naturally, fooling less players is easier than fooling more. For example, fooling a full table of between eight and ten players is going to be extremely difficult, probably near impossible; but a table with less players makes bluffing much easier because fooling three players is easier than fooling eight.
To other players, especially seasoned players, the face says it all. This is why it is extremely important to let your face become easy to read. If you are dealt a horrible first round of cards, then do not look at your cards with a look of disgust or disappointment because other player's will pick up on that as if you were bleeding in shark-infested waters. A good practice would be to always carry a look of no emotion that way your opponents will never know whether you have a terribly lacking hand or an incredibly good hand; either way, your face will remain the same.
A popular method that is used by many poker players when they are trying to cough up a bluff, is to make a bet on the very first round of betting. A lot of poker players will simply pass the bet or call it just to stay in the game but if you make the bet, and make a slightly large bet at that, then it looks as though you are in possession of a threatening hand. However, there is an aspect of intelligence involved in this tactic in respect that if another player is making hefty bets, signifying that he or she may have a nice hand, then it may be a good idea to go ahead and fold.
Bluffing is definitely a poker playing strategy worth learning and eventually mastering. Mastering the bluff can mean the difference between money won and money lost. For most poker players, poker is a game with the ultimate goal of winning money. When money is involved, and even sometimes when it is not, poker playing becomes much more serious and the more knowledgeable and strategic a poker player is, the better shot he or she has at winning. Apply these bluffing tactics whenever you feel you hand is on the downside, but apply them knowledgeably and know when to fold.
